Why the name "Old Fritz"? Firstly, 2012 marked the 300th anniversary of Frederick the Great's birth. Secondly, legend has it that the Prussian king stayed in the still-existing building at Kirchstraße 2 – erected in 1725 – during his time in Herzberg during the Seven Years' War, personally overseeing the provisioning of his troops. The apartments bear the names of two of Frederick the Great's cavalry generals.
